No Bruins, but Rugby via BBC

Saturday, February 4, 2006 13:50 from the bed in room 519 while watching Ireland vs Italy in a rugby match. I’ve gotten my first posts out, including a Spitfire card to Mr. Zachary…. He says it’s his favorite plane, too! And a card with Zebras for Haley, and a birthday card to Eve, my daughter with fashion sense… no the others are fine, too, but Eve is so timely, so avant garde. So, I sent her a card with Dalmatian and a Dalmatian dress, similarly spotted, to arrive by her actual birthday, on February 11.

We slept wonderfully. I was practically falling asleep in the big, long (and narrow) tub, so I slept very well, awakening at 8 AM. We tuned in BBC 1 and caught the news… organic vegetables are very big… almost 5 minutes of news on aubergines without chemicals…. And on to cooking shows which sure beats Martha Stewart.

We enjoyed a room service scrambled egg and Scottish salmon, tea from home (Good Earth),

and while Lin rested, I posted at the end of the block and went on to the post office, coming across a silver Ferrari

and passing the embassy flags. I took a roundabout path, heading back to Oxford Street and the multitudes. Reminds me of Chicago’s State Street.

I found a Starbucks and brought back a cappuccino vente and a couple of chicken mango wraps, passing the American embassy, the statue of Dwight Eisenhower, a home with a marker, where he stayed during WW II. In the same block of houses was a plaque for Sir Frederick Handley-Page, aircraft designer of the 30’s and 40’s (Halifax bomber.)
